Adler Planetarium & Zooniverse: Front end developer (JS) – Adler Planetarium
Location: Chicago, IL
Front end developer for Zooniverse @ Adler Planetarium, Chicago
The Zooniverse (http://www.zooniverse.org) began in 2007 with a project called Galaxy Zoo (http://www.galaxyzoo.org) in which members of the public were invited to help astronomers classify galaxy images by their shape. Four years later we have 10 projects and more than 650,000 ‘citizen scientists’ helping us do real research on the web.
Our projects are varied; ranging from transcribing old weather records (http://www.oldweather.org) to tracking solar flares coming off the surface of the Sun (http://www.solarstormwatch.com/). Your work will be used by millions of people and you’ll be collaborating with organisations including TED, Microsoft Research and SETI.
The office & team
We’re based out of the Adler Planetarium in Chicago (http://www.adlerplanetarium.org/) and have some of the best views of the city around. You’ll be working in a team of 8 in a relaxed environment and collaborating with a remote team in Oxford, UK. You get to choose your tools (e.g. Mac or PC) and the software that you use, there’s also an opportunity for travel if you want it.
If you’re dreams are filled by IPO or VC funding then this probably isn’t the job for you but if you like science and fancy working with some smart people on some genuinely interesting problems then get in touch.
