Dev Ops Engineer
Big Cartel is growing rapidly and we need a flexible infrastructure to keep up. Our first full time ops team member will need a vast breadth of experience in areas such as systems administration, automation, security, capacity analysis, monitoring, backup/disaster recovery, network design, and hardware and vendor selection. Among other things, this person:
  • is passionate about optimization and infrastructure
  • understands the importance of effective monitoring and data collection
  • has a keen ability to quickly identify root causes
  • would be comfortable building a robust infrastructure from the ground up
  • ensures the systems are always available, stable, and secure
More than anything we need someone who wants to help artists make a living doing what they love. Big Cartel is home to nearly 200,000 clothing designers, bands, jewelry makers, crafters, and other artists. Your work, while not always directly visible will impact the satisfaction of millions of users daily.
Here’s some obligatory tool namedropping, we like and use these, props if you do too. MySQL, Redis, Git, Haproxy, Nginx, Apache, AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, ELB), Chef/Puppet, pf/iptables.
This is a full-time and salaried position that includes health, dental, vision, and life insurance, plus a 401(k) and our honor-system PTO policy.
You can work remotely from anywhere in the United States (sorry, no international option at the moment), but extra credit for being in the Salt Lake City area.
