Blue State Digital (BSD), a strategic consulting and
technology firm, seeks a full-time User Experience Designer/Developer for our
technology office located in Boston. The Lead User Experience Designer/Developer position
is a hands-on role responsible for designing, prototyping, and assisting in the
implementation of the UI layer of the BSDTools.

Blue State Digital, founded in 2004, provides communications
strategy and technology services to political, non-profit advocacy and responsible
corporate clients. Current clients include the Democratic National Committee,
Organizing for America, the American Red Cross, Change Congress, SEIU, the UK
Labour Party, AT&T, and many other national and local campaigns,
organizations and causes.
We are committed to crafting and implementing custom
Internet strategies that produce results – online and off. We have first-hand experience
delivering innovative solutions — creating new communication channels, shattering
fundraising records, and organizing people in new ways.
BSD currently has offices in Washington DC, Boston, MA, New
York, NY, and London, UK.  BSD has
recently joined the WPP Digital group of companies through a direct aquisition.
Job Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will exhibit the following skills:
  • Provide
    thought leadership in architecting a near and long term design vision for
    customer experience
  • Create
    sitemaps, wireframes, process flows, interaction design, interactive
    prototypes and other related deliverables and specifications for the
    creative team and technical teams
  • Balance
    multiple projects, timelines, quick deadlines, and communicate effectively
    with all involved
  • Discuss
    strategy direction for online projects and act as the glue between
    cross-functional teams
  • Evaluate
    functionality, usability, accessibility, and overall User Experience for
    existing and proposed systems and sites
  • Define
    patterns and advocate for consistency, without repressing inspiration or
    inhibiting innovation
  • Educate
    and partner with other groups in the company to communicate the value of
    User Experience and how it can help our clients and the company
  • Provide
    production-quality markup, CSS, and javascript when projects move beyond
    the prototype stage
  • Act as an advocate
    for the user, conduct user research, ad-hoc usability analysis, create
    user personas, evaluate existing designs and suggest areas for improvement
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree
  • At least four years professional experience as a
    front-end designer/developer.
  • An intermediate understanding of javascript and
    an advanced understanding of HTML and CSS techniques with a focus on
    standards-oriented design.
  • PHP/mySQL development experience a plus
  • Direct experience working on a political
    campaign, for a non-profit organization, or with fundraising/constituent
    management software.
  • Very strong communication skills with the
    ability to interact with all of the following: technology workers, business
    stakeholders, clients.
  • Must be able to travel 20% of the time.
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced
    (sometimes chaotic environment) while maintaining a sense of perspective.
  • A strong work ethic.
  • Flexibility, curiosity, enthusiasm, passion.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and
