The Technology Department at the Brooklyn Museum is looking for a front-end developer to join our team. We’re searching for someone who has a clean design sensibility, can think deeply and clearly about user experience and information architecture challenges, and really cares about the users who interact with their work.
Once hired, you’d work on our website, web and mobile-web applications, in-gallery interactives, and special projects yet to be announced. Ongoing projects include our collection online, a community-based application for tagging, commenting on, and collecting sets of artworks, and Brooklyn Museum Mobile, a web-based iOS application for exploring our collection.
Here’s our skill checklist:
  • Deep understanding of user experience and interaction design.
  • Solid working knowledge of PHP, JavaScript, and relevant frameworks like MooTools and jQuery.
  • Solid understanding of web standards, up to and including HTML5
  • Working knowledge of Photoshop
  • Familiarity with version control, e.g. SVN
Additionally, we’re keeping an eye out for exceptional candidates who have experience designing for mobile devices and/or have working knowledge of dynamic programming languages like Ruby.
This is a full-time position located at the Museum’s offices in Brooklyn.  This is a fun, friendly, and fast-paced environment and we keep the commitment to a 35 hour week.
