water is a non-profit organization bringing clean and safe drinking
water to people in developing nations. We’ve set an aggressive goal: to
provide clean water to 100 million people in the next ten years and
solve 10% of the global water problem. To do this, we’re building a
staff of passionate and creative people to join our mission.

charity: water seeks a seasoned professional to be the strategic
leader, visionary, and key architect to drive all software and web
development efforts. The organization is poised for aggressive growth,
and this position provides an ambitious professional with the
opportunity to play a key role in designing and managing development of
the online platform and critical systems that constitute the backbone of
our fundraising and reporting strategy. Reporting to the Chief
Operating Officer, the Chief Systems Architect will be an integral part
of charity: water’s senior management team.

responsibilities:
  • Be the technical visionary for charity: water, positioning the organization to be the leader among non-profits.
  • Lead and mentor a small team of software developers.
    This includes scheduling, staffing, prioritization, and all other
    management-related responsibilities.
  • Responsible for integrating and maintaining the
    web-based donor facing software, the organization’s IT systems, and all
    third-party software.
  • Assess current development processes and procedures
    and, where necessary, design and implement new systems to efficiently
    support the development operation and enhance the organization’s
    effectiveness.
  • As a member of the Executive Team, help lead the
    organization, propagate our cultural values and build the capacity for
    exponential growth.

You are an experienced web developer (Java a plus) and are familiar
with challenges associated with scaling a website. You have extensive
knowledge of existing third-party software systems, including content
management systems (CMS), customer relationship management systems (CRM)
and open source software. You are experienced in the
build/buy/integrate decision-making process. You use this knowledge to
make technological and financial decisions that are in the best interest
of the organization. You have a minimum of 5+ years as a software
architect.

You are able to thrive in the midst of charity: water’s aggressive
plans to grow exponentially and work toward solving the global water
crisis. You have a broad knowledge of the current state-of-the-art
web-based systems and architectures, and you will use this knowledge to
set the direction for charity: water’s industry leading software
initiatives.
