The
International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) seek a highly
qualified, experienced, and creative Head
of Web Development
. Leading the center’s website development team and
reporting to the head of Corporate Communications, the successful candidate
will be expected to design, develop, manage, and maintain a dynamic new
corporate website for the center. The position requires a user-oriented design
focus, technical acumen, and a strong record of successful project management.
The Head of Web Development will work with scientists, science writers,
communicators, graphic designers, and the Information and Communications
Technology Unit. S/he will also help ensure 24-7-365 operation of CIMMYT’s
website, in conjunction with a web server administrator, and help to monitor,
analyze, and report on usage and related trends. S/he will keep abreast of
technology developments, new website applications, and the use of social media,
creatively and effectively applying them to improve the impact and
functionality of CIMMYT’s website. The successful candidate will possess good
organizational skills and work effectively with minimal supervision as part of
a multidisciplinary, multicultural team. The position will be based at CIMMYT’s
beautiful, gated headquarters in Texcoco, just outside of Mexico City. CIMMYT

Minimum skills and
experience required to apply:
Ø  Bachelor’s degree
with 3-5 years experience or equivalent required.
Ø  Strong knowledge of
and experience with all/most of the following: XHTML, CSS, PHP, ASP, .NET,
MySql, and JavaScript.
Ø  Knowledge of /
experience with Linux and OS Windows.
Ø  Passionate about
design, user experience, and website usability.
Ø  Use of / interfacing
with social media to strengthen web page impacts and reach.
Ø  Experience with
search engine optimization.
Ø  Working experience
with Adobe CS5 Web Suite (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash)
Ø  Experience embedding
video; knowledge of different techniques and codecs a plus.
Ø  High level of
expertise in using open source CMS (Joomla, WordPress, Drupal etc.).
Ø  Ability to produce
and test website functionality in all major browsers and mobile devices.
Ø  Ability to handle
multiple projects simultaneously and meet frequent deadlines.
Ø  Strong interpersonal
and communications skills, and demonstrated ability to interact and collaborate
with others towards shared goals in a multicultural setting.
Ø  Excellent mastery of
written and spoken English.
 
Desired skills and experience:
Ø 
Course
work or work experience in biological or agricultural science.
Ø 
Experience
with XML/XSL tools.
Ø 
Proficiency
in written and verbal Spanish
Ø 
Familiarity
with wiki software such as Confluence.
Ø 
Experience
with or exposure to repository software and repositories.
Ø 
Project
management and/or leadership experience.
