Deerfield Academy seeks a motivated individual to provide
web programming for the Academy’s websites. Reporting to the Director of
Information Technology Services in collaboration with Communications
management, the Web Applications Programmer is responsible for the development
and implementation of web-based applications, databases, and services, and
integration between new and existing systems.
Primary duties and responsibilities
include: assess needs, develop recommendations, prototypes, and
technical solutions to business challenges that ensure the accessibility,
usability, and long-term maintenance of web applications and related databases; develop specifications for database,
data acquisition and data flow to maximize the effectiveness of communications
and business operations; in collaboration with other IT and Communications
staff, manage, maintain, and troubleshoot the Academy’s web services; create
and maintain standards-based documentation and procedures; participate in the
evaluation of vendor products to provide cost-effective, secure, and robust
solutions that will integrate effectively with existing systems; other duties
as requested.
The successful candidate will
possess: a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field and a
minimum of three years experience with web application development, experience
with various web programming languages/tools such asCold Fusion, PHP, SQL,
XHTML/HTML/CSS, XML, AJAX, DHTML and Javascript/jQuery; knowledge of database
technologies (Oracle RDBMS and PSQL, MSSQL, MYSQL, etc.), multitier
applications architecture, standards compliance, best practices, and semantic
coding concepts; knowledge of CMS products (e.g., Drupal/WordPress), and common
web 2.0 APIs; excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills;
the ability to be self-directed and resourceful; a strong customer service
orientation. Knowledge of SunGard Banner is a plus.
