E-accent is a small distributed web development firm specialized in Ruby on Rails web applications. We are winners of the 2007 Netherlands E-work Award for the best distance-working organization and have been regularly featured in the press (a/o Quote).
We are based in the Netherlands with most of our people working from Beijing, China, where we have an office in the city’s financial district. In order to cope with increasing demand for our work, we need to expand quickly in the coming months.
Momentarily we work on a wide range of applications, for instance a video CMS for a group of independent tv-producers in the Netherlands, a large corporate Extranet for the Episcopal Church, an online portfolio for a wealth management firm in Central Europe, and a large planning application for a healthcare management firm in the Netherlands.

If you like the 37signals approach to developing software, you are going to feel right at home with us.
As a web designer, you work in a small distributed team consisting of yourself, the client, and a rotating team of Ruby on Rails developers. You are responsible for doing research with the client and working with the developers to transform ideas into working software in short iterations.
We are gradually shifting into applying BDD to all of our projects, so you need to have at least an understanding of Cucumber scenarios and how they can be used for UA- and unit testing.
You build user interfaces directly in HTML and CSS in a Ruby on Rails project tree. Affinity with MVC-programming environments and versioning systems (Git) is necessary. At some point you need to write JQuery functions and Rails helpers.
You communicate with the client and the developers in Basecamp and Campfire. You usually work from home, sometimes possibly on location with the client. If you happen to live or be in Beijing, you are of course free to use our office.
As a small team we are looking for a generalist who takes initiative and understands not only design, but also copywriting, customer communication, teamwork, and a bit of programming.
Does that sound like you?
