At elarm, we’re building the next-generation of home security. The clunky, low-tech alarm systems available today haven’t changed in twenty years. We’re creating a beautiful device you don’t just need, but actually want to own: wireless, android-powered, easy to use, and designed for smartphones and video surveillance.
For the last five years, our founding team has succeeded by building startups with a key distinguishing factor – innovating in existing niches by transforming them to work with the cloud. Our first startup, Flektor, took the concept of a video editor, and put it entirely in a web browser. Gobbler is changing the way musicians collaborate by leveraging cloud technology. Networked applications are what we do, and at elarm we’re applying that philosophy to home security – and discovered it changes everything.
Our backend is the hidden heart of our products. At elarm, it’s powered by Rails and node.js, and we like to play with lots of technologies, including Redis and MongoDB. We’re also doing some cool & unexpected things with streaming video.
On the front-end side, the website is not only our first customer touchpoint, it’s also where they go to manage their account, access their system on mobile if they haven’t installed an app, and even how we communicate with some of our service providers.
We’re looking for someone who is comfortable in both worlds – building out web applications for customers and mobile. And since we haven’t settled on front-end tech yet, you’ll also be able to choose your own tools. SASS? Less? Backbone? Coffeescript? It’s up to you.
