Forio Business Simulations is a leader in the field of online business simulation games. We founded our software company in 2001 based on a passion for building business simulations and a belief that we could offer innovative online technology to enable others to do the same.  Simulations hosted on our web site are used by business students, mangers, and the general public around the world.
We are looking for a Senior Project Manager/Developer to oversee the development of our core product, Forio Simulate.  We want someone who is awesome at project planning and delivery, has a high technical competence, and can encourage our small but talented developer team to get things done while inspiring technical innovation.
Responsibilities will include:
  • Working with senior management and customers to prioritize feature requirements.
  • Develop and track project schedule (both bi-weekly milestones and at the individual issue level). 
  • Mentoring, recruiting, and supervising developer and QA staff.
  • Specifying detailed design of features to aid planning and implementation.
  • Collaborating with the lead architect to plan long-term technical direction for the product
  • Help implement actual features (as a member of the development team)
At Forio, you will be involved with cutting edge technologies.  Some of the concepts and technologies we are currently interested in include social networking, online publishing, data visualization, business simulation and analysis, RESTful APIs, HTML5, Flex, NoSQL, scalability and performance.  We value people who continually experiment with new ideas and tools.
Some specific managerial requirements
  • Proven experience managing enterprise software development.
  • 4 years software development experience plus minimum 2 years as a development manager
  • Attention to detail, excellent communication skills
  • Detailed project planning, scheduling, and project tracking skills
  • Record of successful delivery of at least one commercial software project and experience with working on both new products as well as service releases
  • Experience with iterative or agile development highly desirable
Some specific technical requirements
  • Background in Computer Science or a closely related discipline
  • Knowledge of the full application development lifecycle – requirements analysis, design, coding, debugging and product release
  • Experience managing the development of java server applications
  • Experience in related domain (simulation, online gaming, social networking) is helpful
This is a full-time position based out of our downtown San Francisco office.  Local applicants or those looking to move to the SF Bay area are welcomed.  We reimburse for relocation expenses.
