Location: Olathe, KS (suburb of Kansas City)


POSITION SUMMARY: Concept, design, and produce compelling interactive training experience for use online and in-house.
  • Utilize Flash-based applications to create interactive media which clearly explain the features and functions of new technologies and devices
  • Storyboard, design, and produce new training product  
  • Work with OEM’s, Training, Communications, Marketing, and Engineering staff to plan, manage, and complete requested projects
  • Work with project managers to hit critical project due dates
  • Lead Garmin’s development and use of Flash to deliver high-quality training tools and rapid UI for web, interactive and training product interfaces
  • Remain current on new media and traditional design disciplines
  • Develop standards in Flash projects that will streamline projects and produce more efficient working habits for the interactive team as it grows
  • Stay abreast of new tools and techniques used in the interactive and animation field; primarily in the development of AS3 and Flash based media
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned
  • Associates Degree in Interactive Design/Animation or a substantially similar design field or a minimum of 2 years experience performing a substantially similar role
  • Must possess a minimum of 3 years field experience working in Interactive Design/Animation on projects relevant to Garmin’s business needs
  • Must provide a portfolio or reel demonstrating exceptional understanding and use of imagery, layout, color, and typography
  • Must possess a minimum of 1 year of demonstrated proficiency and experience using Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash
  • Must possess demonstrated proficiency with PC and Mac
  • Must possess a minimum of 1 year of demonstrated knowledge of CSS, PHP, JavaScript, HTML, HTML5 and XML
  • Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
  • Driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems
  • Excellement time management and follow-up skills
  • Superior organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality
  • AfterEffects experience
  • 3ds Max experience
  • Flex experience
  • paperVision 3D experience
  • MXML, MySQL and Adobe Air
  • Experience deploying solutions to multiple platforms:  PC, Mac, and Web
  • Experience with Flash based gaming
  • Video production experience; including: color correction, finishing, and audio sweetening
  • Previous experience in Visual Communications, Graphic Design, Advertising, or Marketing
