Main Purpose : To maintain
and develop new Java web-based applications
About us:
GeoPlace is a
centre of excellence for spatial address and street information in Great
Britain. GeoPlace is a Limited Liability Partnership jointly owned by the Local
Government Group and Ordnance Survey. It brings together local government’s
address and streets gazetteers; the NLPG and the NSG, with all of Ordnance
Survey’s addressing products to create a “national address gazetteer database”
for Great Britain, providing one definitive source of accurate publicly-owned
spatial address data.
The candidate will join the Systems team
and report to the Development Lead to deliver and maintain systems developed
A typical work day includes
developing enhancements to existing Java
based web-software
managed releases to the live site
estimating and reporting on progress of
The candidate should have about 3 years of experience with web-based
development and administration, preferably with following technologies:
Required: Java 5, JSP, JDBC, Spring, Maven, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Ext
Desirable: Linux, SQL, Shell-scripting, OpenLayers, GeoServer, Tomcat,
Plus: PHP, Content Management Systems, Behaviour
and Test Driven Development
and Experience:
Suitable candidates will have a good
combination of technical education and knowledge. The candidate will be
expected to learn key tasks and new technologies. The candidate will be supported
in career development and pursuit of technical qualifications.
We are looking for a candidate with strong
business communication skills, a team-oriented approach and an interest in
public sector geographic information.
