The Team: Morningstar, Inc. formed Morningstar Investment Management to leverage our extensive experience in investment consulting and retirement planning solutions. Morningstar Investment Management taps into the investment, advisory, and business strengths of Morningstar Associates, Ibbotson Associates, and Morningstar Investment Services, all three of which are registered investment advisors. We use our expertise in asset allocation, manager research, and portfolio construction to create innovative investment solutions for institutions, advisors, and investors.
The Role: In this position, you will play a critical role in developing a web service application to manage investors` retirement assets. An ideal candidate would be someone with proven problem solving skills who understands investment concepts. This person would have the ability to work independently on projects from concept/design to implementation. You would also work directly with project managers to understand and improve software requirements. The candidate should be thoroughly familiarly with .NET (C#), SQL and system architecture. This position is based in our Chicago office.
Responsibilities
+ Design and develop flexible, scalable, and robust .NET web applications to manage investor`s retirement assets.
+ Display expertise with object oriented designs, domain modeling, and Agile practices like test-driven-development.
+ Analyze and remediate production issues and build instrumentation and operational readiness into the system architecture.
+ Act as the software guardian and own non-functional requirements, architectural direction, quality of the code, and addressing technical debt.
Requirements
+ A bachelor`s degree in computer science or a related field.
+ 2+ years of work experience in analysis, design, coding, and implementation of large-scale .NET object oriented web applications.
+ Top notch programming ability and a desire to work for a team that values those skills.
+ Essential Skills: Experience developing with C#, JavaScript, and Visual Studio.
+ Expertise in DHTML (HTML, JavaScript, CSS).
+ Strong knowledge on OO design including design patterns and their applicability.
+ Knowledge of SQL including ability to develop stored procedures, functions, views, and complex queries.
+ Exhibit good development practices such as encapsulation, composition, continuous integration, and test driven development.
