The Team: Morningstar’s Software Division develops, markets, and supports all of our technology-based products and related services for institutions, advisors, and individuals. Key products include Morningstar Direct, a global research platform for institutions; Morningstar Advisor Workstation/Morningstar Office, a research and investment planning software platform for financial advisors; and Morningstar.com, an investment website with research, data, and tools for individual investors. We also offer custom technology solutions for enterprises looking for more unique or integrated solutions.
The Role: Morningstar’s Custom Solutions business is a fast-growing part of our Software Division. Drawing from capabilities throughout Morningstar, we provide our institutional clients with uniquely tailored software solutions. Our solutions range from delivering off-the-shelf core capabilities to providing completely new custom development. This role will be primarily involved in creating new software solutions that are developed to our institutional client’s specification. You will be involved in working with clients to understand their requirements, and will be part of a cross-functional team (product managers, project managers, designers, QA) that recommends and delivers a solution for that client.
Custom Solutions is a rapidly changing environment – a successful candidate will have a strong desire to learn, and will be a self-starter who is comfortable working on a highly collaborative team.
+ Participate in all aspects of the software development life cycle, including architecture, development, integration, testing, and maintenance.
+ Participate in joint conversations with clients and internal resources to clarify business needs.
+ Collaborate with related, non-technical functions to envision and create innovative solutions.
+ Design and develop UI as well as backend business logic and data access.
+ Review technical designs provided by teams.
+ A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
+ A minimum of 3-5 years of development experience.
+ Background in web application development.
+ Experience working collaboratively with related non-technical functions.
+ Strong technical and non-technical communication skills.
+ Knowledge of object-oriented design, building highly scalable and available websites, refactoring using design patters, and Agile methodologies is preferred.
+ Experience with financial application development is a plus.
