Munchery is about TECH + TASTE
There’s only been two options for food: cook in or go out.
We’re building the third option.
Build something that matters.
Munchery is looking for world-class individuals passionate about “tech and taste.” We’re using technology to bring together chefs and the ones they serve in an unprecedented way. We believe good food should be convenient, diverse, healthy, and frankly, taste good. We all must eat, and we’re tired of the lack of innovation in food. We’re well-funded, growing rapidly, and poised for a multi-city launch. Join talented teammates in building a service that changes the game.
What’s it like working at Munchery?
  • Fun, relaxed, casual environment.
  • Rewarding work, knowing you’re helping people’s daily lives.
  • Get it done. Zero bureaucracy. Make a direct impact.
  • An epicurean’s delight! Good food throughout our office.
  • Interact with chefs and the kitchen world. Participate in chef tastings and samplings.
  • High-level of excellence across the company. No luxury hires. Everyone adds tangible value.
Benefits & Perks
  • Competitive compensation packages and stock options.
  • Food is everywhere (it’s actually overwhelming)
  • Employee Discount Program (never worry about dinner again).
  • Open Vacation Policy. Rest when you need it, rock when you don’t.
  • Health, dental and vision benefits.
  • We love Apple products and use it extensively from ops to dev.
Who we’re looking for:
  • Unicorns: rare, amazing individuals that are believed not to exist in this world.
  • Cross-functional and multi-talented. If you’re an engineer, you should have multiple core competencies beyond coding (ie: photographer, great writer, and have mad chopping skills).
  • Food lovers. In fact, a lot of your teammates have had previous professional kitchen experience in their past
  • Passionate people who puts team before ego.
  • People who can turn on a dime and embrace rapid changes.
Being an Software Engineer at Munchery
You’re applying because code is a way of life for you. You’re the kind of person who enjoys picking up a new language on your free time, and get the tingles thinking about scalable, high-performance systems. Our engineers play a critical part in designing the technology behind Munchery’s e-commerce and operations management systems. Our code is very “tangible.” It moves food from production to inventory to fulfillment and delivery, and a ton of algorithms behind it. With the lack of innovation in the “tech and taste” space, there’s nothing better than putting smart, creative engineers to solve it.
The development culture at Munchery is unique, stemming from the fact that both co-founders are coders at heart. We believe an engineer should take extreme pride in their code in its elegance and creativity. We believe in empowering our engineers to make improvements. See a problem, fix it, commit and push to production. Caused a P0 bug? That’s life, just fix it and learn from it.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in Rails.
  • Minimum B.S. in computer science or equivalent
  • Have experience in building e-commerce components such as transaction processing, inventory, race conditions, etc. Geo-location, CRM, and reporting a plus.
  • Have published your own Github projects or be a committer in a serious project
  • Experience in testing frameworks (like BDD/TDD)
  • High-level proficiency in UNIX and system ops (building RPMs, chef recipes, deployment scripts)
  • Expert in writing complex SQL queries
  • High-level experience in scaling: memcached, redis, DB tuning
  • Write clean HTML/CSS/jQuery code. About the equivalent of a junior front-end developer
  • Mobile experience a plus.
  • Previous startup experience a plus.
This position does require that you live in, or be willing to relocate to, San Francisco and that you are already legally able to work in the US.
