Role Summary:
The Interactive Developer will be responsible for shaping functionality of NBC Sports digital properties including usability, standards and presentation with the overarching goal of providing an excellent user experience. This position will also be charged with on implementing creative deliverables to web with a large focus on mobile platforms.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to quickly grasp and distill complex ideas and communicate underlying technical concepts
  • Apply knowledge of latest technologies and the ability to articulate how they can impact the user experience
  • Collaborate with interactive designers to identify technical challenges to proposed ideas and think creatively to solve them
  • Apply best practices and drive process improvement changes with the digital team
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • 1 year experience hand-coding HTML 4, CSS 2, jQuery, AJAX and JSON. ActionScript and XSLT experience a plus
  • 1 year of coding, debugging, and testing web applications using all of the above
  • 1 year experience working closely with interactive designers and project managers to create a highly functional user experience
  • 1 year of demonstrated knowledge of web and mobile standards, best practices, usability principles, and constraints within web, mobile and e-mail formats
  • 6 months of demonstrated ability to manage outside resources, vendors and freelancers

Desired Characteristics:
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies like HTML 5, CSS 3, @font-face and Cufon
  • Ability to directly translate Photoshop mocks without style guides to various media. Working with complex design comps to extract images & assets
  • Creative thinker, committed to scalability, extensibility and reusability of your code
  • Experience in Photoshop and Illustrator with an eye on a user centered approach to visual design problems. Familiarity with design principles and best practices
  • Extremely comfortable with cross-browser compatibility/testing with the ability to build a highly interactive site that works flawlessly in all major browsers
  • Have experience building accessible, standards compliant websites
  • Knowledge of SEO and experience architecting the front-end to optimize for these considerations
  • Passion for researching new trends within front-end web development
  • Experience installing, customizing/implementing and launching CMS-based websites
  • Passionate, accountable and inventive
  • Create HTML prototypes for social and mobile applications, and other special projects
  • Experience coding for Flash using ActionScript 3 and XML
  • Understanding of database design and demonstrated ability to code advanced database queries
  • WordPress theming and familiarity with .NET and Visual Studio 2005+ a plus
  • Ability to coordinate with other departments (Creative, Business Development, Sales) to complete projects on time. Give timeline estimates and meet them
  • Enjoy a fast-paced environment that provides regular challenges
  • Excellent organization and communication skills, attention to detail with the ability to articulate technical solutions to a variety of audiences
  • Experience with Objective-C (iPhone/iPad)
