NYMag.com is looking for an exceptional junior level interaction designer to join our team. Your primary role will be to provide daily support to our design & editorial teams on a variety of projects. You’ll also occupy the main design role during our weekly task of putting our print issue online. In addition, you’ll occasionally assist with production and design tasks related to new products. You’ll work closely with members of the design, photo, and production teams and frequently interact with editors and producers.

RESPONSIBILITIES
·        Daily editorial design tasks including creating lede images for our home pages, illustrations/photo-illustrations for our blogs, the occasional logo, among others.
·        Support the production team with the weekly publish of the magazine issue to online including designing splash pages & navigation elements, cropping photos and artwork, building slideshows, and creating or modifying new html/css templates.
·        Work with editors and designers to brainstorm and sketch ideas for new editorial features.
·        Create and manage style guides.
·        Assist the design team in producing mockups for new products and features based on established templates.
·        Assist with other production and organizational tasks related to the design department’s needs.
·        Assist the ad sales and marketing teams with occasional requests.
DESIRED SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:
·        A strong online portfolio.
·        A Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related discipline and 1-3 years experience in web design/production.
·        Proficiency in industry-standard software, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, Dreamweaver/Coda.
·        An understanding of information architecture and user experience design.
·        Knowledge of HTML & CSS. Ability to hand code both strongly desired. (Javascript and Actionscript also a plus).
·        Strong understanding of typography and page layout.
·        Ability to follow and established design styles.
·        Comfortable working in fast-paced environment and the ability to prioritize projects responsibly.
·        Photo-illustration skills a big plus.
·        Experience working in an editorial environment a plus.
·        Experience working with content management systems a plus.
·        Self-motivated, organized, accurate, detail oriented, and great communication skills.
