One Mighty Roar is a fast-growing digital agency based in Cambridge, Massachusetts looking for a PHP developer who has experience with CodeIgniter or similar MVC frameworks.You will work at our Cambridge location where we have the culture of a young, motivated, and fast-paced startup. One Mighty Roar is a developer-led company, and we’re extremely biased towards creating developer-friendly environments.
About You
You will work in our Cambridge office alongside our team of designers and developers to build web applications for a range of nationally recognized brands and upcoming startups. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for building/maintaining start-to-finish web applications using PHP, CodeIgniter, and other web technologies. In addition to client work, we have a number of growing internal projects with their own unique development challenges.
You should be familiar with best practices when it comes to application design, user experience and designing backend systems. Ideally, you should have experience creating and working with various types of APIs and web services including REST, SOAP, XML-RPC, Facebook’s Graph API, OAuth, etc.
You’ll make decisions much easier by showing us examples of current work, project contributions, etc. Have a GitHub account, ongoing project, or blog? We’ll take those too!
What You’ll Do
  1. Participate in all phases of the project lifecycle – architecture, design, development, alpha, beta, release, and production support.
  2. Contribute to development of project schedules, provides work/time estimates, and is committed to meeting deadlines.
  3. Draft documentation to describe program development, logic, coding and corrections.
One Mighty Roar is a predominantly client-driven company, and direct client communication is common for every member of the team. People skills, as you might expect, are a must.
Based on our team so far, we think a qualified person might have the following to offer…
  1. Bachelors degree in computer science, computer engineering or related field or at least 2 years of concentrated developmental experience.
  2. Self-organized and able to conceptualize a project from start to finish.
  3. Proficiency with PHP and the entire LAMP stack.
  4. Experience in implementing interfaces for web applications.
  5. Efficient at integrating APIs/web services into applications. We’ve found that this typically means you’re good at adapting documentation into practice.
  6. Knowledge of best practices for PHP development, API development, etc.
  7. Strong experience in agile software development
  8. Able to work and complete tasks in a flexible, highly independent environment
  9. Knowledge of version control. We use Subversion and Git.
  10. Able to articulate technical issues into terms a non-developer (e.g. client) can appreciate.
  11. Constant drive to keep up to date/explore new technologies.

  • Ability to configure and optimize a server from scratch. (We use Amazon Web Services heavily)
