Software Engineer, Back End Development
 
Patch is a new local news company focused on reinventing community journalism one town at a time. We employ a full-time editor for each community we serve, and create personalized news in towns across the country, encouraging participation from local users with our high-quality content. We’ve been very successful in meeting our goals so far, and with a big expansion planned for 2010, we need your help!
We currently have openings for experienced software developers to design, implement, and improve our Ruby on Rails-based local news platform. You have experience building and scaling user-focused web applications, are an independent and creative thinker, and have a strong desire to take ownership of software projects at a small but rapidly growing company.
 
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years experience developing database-backed web applications.
  • Strong familiarity with Ruby on Rails & MySQL (or a similar framework & DB).
  • Comfortable with agile software development practices.
  • Experience working with Git or other VCS.
  • Excellent communication skills with both engineers and non- engineers.
  • Links to current projects a plus, open-source projects a huge plus.
