We launched in February 2009, currently operate over 90 local community news and information sites, and are rapidly expanding to hundreds of markets and towns across the country! With just over a year in operation, we’ve already won acclaim in the industry and coverage in the New York Times, Forbes, Newsweek, Bloomberg, NPR’s “talk of the nation”, “the news hour with Jim Lehrer”, and numerous industry blogs and web sites. In June of 2009 we were acquired by AOL Ventures. Well funded, and led by a management team of leaders in each of their respective fields, Patch is poised to become the largest pure-play local news and information platform employing professional journalists–and we’re always looking to hire bright new Patchers!
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with an excellent team of designers, product managers and front end developers to ensure that the visual design communicates the desired message, and functions successfully for varying technical and performance specifications
  • Lead the creative aspects of a project with passion and demonstrate strong business acumen
  • Apply deep knowledge of current design trends and usability aspects to every project
  • Play an active role in brainstorms, new feature specifications, and work side by side with engineers through feature implementation
  • Design new site features within the framework of our existing style guide
  • Thrive in a friendly, creative, and collaborative environment
  • Understand user experience principles and be able to apply them to site design
  • Versatile in use of fresh creative elements and ideas
  • Knowledge and understanding of CSS/html
  • Able to take direction, work independently, creatively, and flexibly
  • Comfortable with managing several projects simultaneously
  • Disciplined and attentive to detail
  • Have an ability to think like a designer and like a user
  • Be an expert in web and usability trends and best practices
  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
Education: Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, fine arts, or related field or higher
Professional Experience: Web Designer 3-5 years and Senior Web Designer 5-7 years
