The E.W. Scripps Company is looking for a highly creative Director of Design and User Experience for its Newspaper Division.  This position will lead overall user experience development and design for its Web sites and create optimal site interfaces and interactions, work closely with content, content operations and all other divisions and local site teams, as well as other divisions of EW Scripps and its partners and vendors.
Key Activities include:
-Leading a team of user experience designers to develop compelling site architectures, as well as manage implementation process of projects from concept through deployment.
-Creating and implementing guidelines, online frameworks and style standards along with managing teams in the scoping and delivery of content, marketing, operations, sales and development concepts.
-Sharing and disseminating new design concepts and roll-outs.
-Managing style implementation and evolution of design for Web sites and other interactive outlets as they arise and/or are needed.
-Responsible for expense budget management.
-Helping establish guidelines and processes to support local, regional and enterprise-wide initiatives.
-BA/BS degree and/or equivalent experience.
-5 years ux and web design experience including responsibility for the budgeting process and prior managerial experience.
-Knowledge of the Internet, its design limitations, technical specifications and online content management systems.
-Knowledge of setup and configuration of web applications.
-Knowledge of web coding languages such as HTML and JavaScript.
-Advanced design and layout skills.
-Skills in standard web design packages such as Macromedia Flash, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop, Acrobat, Microsoft Office, Mac OS operating system and/or Windows/XP.
-Must be thoroughly versed in (X)HTML structure and semantics.
-Must work fluently in CSS, and understand how to use CSS to abstract visual presentation from site structure as completely as possible.
-Must know how to test and assure fidelity of Web document structure and CSS across multiple client browsers and platforms.
-Must be able to evaluate static graphic storyboards, such as Photoshop page images, quickly judge their suitability for Web presentation, and produce semantically sound (X) HTML/CSS Web versions from them.
-Must understand how to integrate rich media objects (Flash, streaming or downloadable video) into Web pages and sites
-Must understand how Web templates work in typical database content management systems: server-side includes, template nesting and forms of presentation logic (variables, loops, conditionals) that are common in dynamically delivered content Web sites.
