The Technology department at the Brooklyn Museum seeks backend web developer to help manage the museum’s Web presence and back-end workflow automation tools. In addition to database design, you’d be maintaining a collection of SSIS, PHP, and BASH scripts related to data sharing between back-end collections, media, and related content databases. 
You’d be joining a small team on a variety of Web and in-gallery projects related to art, community, visitor experience and open access. Recent projects have included publishing over 93,000 object records in our collection online and the creation of an API alongside it; Split Second: Indian Paintings, an online experiment and in-gallery installation exploring visitors’ split-second reactions to our Indian paintings collection; and visualization and data analysis looking at objects in our collection; and GO, a Brooklyn-wide open studio project where artists opened their doors so community members could decide who could be featured in a group exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum.  
Here’s our skill checklist:
  • Expertise with standard SQL and familiarity with Mysql and SQL Server 2003/2008;
  • Experience in database-heavy Web applications;
  • Strong UNIX command-line programming (PHP, Ruby, BASH);
  • Strong data modeling skills (i.e. 3NF);
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SSIS packages and jobs;
  • Experience with object-oriented PHP;
This is a full-time position located at the Museum’s offices in Brooklyn.  It’s a fun, friendly, and fast-paced environment and we keep the commitment to a 35 hour week, so you can expect to have a life outside the office.

OVERVIEW
Junior Developers at Brooklyn United handle a host of responsibilities and their days are, like the rest of us, defined by the sheer variety of work types. Our interns regularly work on many projects for clients in dramatically varied fields. We’re always on the lookout for developers who can offer insight into prevailing trends, and can think critically about their work and participate actively in group processes.
Studio hours are M-F, 10a-6p. Our developers see projects at every stage of the process and are given a high degree of autonomy and responsibility, and we work hard to ensure their voices are a key part of projects they work on. 
The Junior Developer builds and tests interactive projects from mobile to web to things that aren’t so easily categorized. Our developers work collaboratively with the design team and studio heads to shape ideas, and reports to the Associate Director of Interactive and Associate Technical Director.

While our core market is delivering creative solutions for clients in creative industries like fashion, architecture, design, and the arts, our studio has range. We work with a wide variety of clients, and our staff is energized by that diversity of experience. We’re located in Brooklyn, NY, in the New York Digital District.

The Technology department at the Brooklyn Museum seeks a part time programmer to help manage the museum’s Web infrastructure and back-end workflow automation tools. We’re looking for someone who’s had direct experience supporting database-heavy Web applications running on Amazon cloud services and can assist with our current migration. You’d be migrating several Ruby, PHP, and BASH data sharing scripts to operate in the cloud. You’d also help streamline our Web development and deployment processes.

The Technology Department at the Brooklyn Museum is looking for a front-end developer to join our team. We’re searching for someone who has a clean design sensibility, can think deeply and clearly about user experience and information architecture challenges, and really cares about the users who interact with their work.
Once hired, you’d work on our website, web and mobile-web applications, in-gallery interactives, and special projects yet to be announced. Ongoing projects include our collection online, a community-based application for tagging, commenting on, and collecting sets of artworks, and Brooklyn Museum Mobile, a web-based iOS application for exploring our collection.
Here’s our skill checklist:
  • Deep understanding of user experience and interaction design.
  • Solid working knowledge of PHP, JavaScript, and relevant frameworks like MooTools and jQuery.
  • Solid understanding of web standards, up to and including HTML5
