Position
We’re focused on creating the next generation of highly interactive, usable information applications, expert systems that streamline our clients’ workflow and make business fun again. We use AJAX, Ruby on Rails, HTML5 and PHP working with both SQL and FileMaker databases on the back end.
We’re looking for a new developer to help us turn around a wide variety of open projects. You should be actively engaged and passionate about the technologies you’re using, quick to learn, willing to teach and collaborate. Recent CS/CE grads especially encouraged to apply.
Generally, we are looking for someone who is interested in working as part of a small firm, not as a freelancer (though freelancing experience is helpful), nor as part of a large corporation (though corporate experience is helpful). We are open to working with freelancers on a per-project basis.
This is a part-time or full-time position, depending upon your availability.

Ruby on Rails (or alternative Ruby framework)
JavaScript (which frameworks/libraries?)
PHP (any frameworks such as CakePHP, Zend, other?)
database admin and SQL
release management (SVN, Git, Capistrano)
comfortable deploying to and developing in *nix
CSS3, HTML5
integration with third party web services, ie Google API’s, Facebook API, etc.
– Attach your resume (text or PDF only, not to exceed 1MB).
– Attach 3-5 professional references with emails and phone contact for each (not people related to you, of course).
– Answer the following questions (please be brief):
What’s your availability? (how many hours per week, starting when?)
What hourly rate / salary would you require?
Is most of your experience with full-time employment or freelance work?
Have you completed projects on tight budgets?
How willing are you to commute to Oakland? To clients around the Bay Area?
How do you handle it when you go over budget on a project — have you had to ask a client to pay for work beyond the initial spec they agreed to?
Do you work better alone or in a team?
What is your strongest asset?
What do you do when you are having a difficult time solving a problem?
– If possible, attach code samples, including:
the code for a model
the code for a controller that utilizes the above model
the code for a view for one of the actions of the above controller
the CSS code that pertains to the above view
tests for the above code
anything else related to the above code that you want to show us
