Full-time: 35 hours
per week.  M-F 9-5, some occasional

Duties and
Responsibilities:
  • Reporting
    to the Senior Web Developer, assists with design, code, and development of all
    Harvard University Division of Continuing Education public websites using
    php/javascript skills and strong knowledge of hand-coded CSS and HTML5.
  • Under
    close supervision from the web team, handles requests for site changes using a
    wide variety of web technologies.
  • Support,
    maintain, and extend Drupal-based websites.
  • Assist
    with development of Drupal themes.
  • Support
    the portal and course websites using the Harvard iCommons platform. Support DCE
    blogs using WordPress.
  • Stay
    current on standards for web usability, design, coding, CSS, scripting
    languages, browser compatibility, and accessibility issues, with flexibility
    for learning new skills as needed.
  • Support
    various web-based tools.
  • Provide
    technical support to team members.
 
Basic Qualifications:
1-3 years of
experience in web design and development
 
Additional
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s
    degree preferred.
  • Excellent
    critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, and an ability to adapt to the
    rapidly changing technologies inherent in web development.
  • Extensive
    experience with hand-coded HTML/CSS and strong commitment to web standards.
  • Understanding
    of content management systems, Drupal strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge
    of php and javascript/jQuery. 
  • Database
    experience (mySQL particularly) a plus.
  • Experience
    with source control systems (particularly subversion) a plus.
  • Ability
    to conceptualize and articulate ideas for new or enhanced designs and
    interactive capabilities, and to communicate and collaborate effectively with a
    team to carry them out.
  • Must
    be well organized, detail oriented, able to work in a fast-paced environment
    with high standards for quality and accuracy.
  • Willingness/availability
    to work overtime and/or be “on call” during critical times.

position is for a one-year term and requires working full time on site in
Cambridge

DESCRIPTION
The Laboratory
for Computational Cell Biology has an immediate
opening
for a programmer / software designer for the purpose of transforming
live cell image analysis packages developed in the lab over the last five years
(Matlab and C/C++) into turn-key programs for the cell biology community. The
position is funded initially by an NIH grant for one year; however longer term
funding is a possibility. The LCCB is located at the Harvard
Medical School
campus in Boston’s
Longwood Medical Area, which is easily accessible by public transportation. The
salary will be commensurate with the experience of the candidate.
