Responsibilities include:
1. Develop and maintain websites and applications using modern web standards and technologies.
2. Collaborate with other designers and developers on projects around the university.
3. Convert visual designs and written descriptions into well-formed and well-organized scripts on the front-end and then choose the most appropriate technology, framework and template solution for the backend.
4. Maintain, extend, and develop on open-source PHP frameworks and the enterprise-supported content management system.
5. Develop and maintain custom plug-ins, modules, and applications for multiple frameworks and content management systems.
6. Develop unobtrusive and reusable JavaScript, both from scratch and using a library, like jQuery, to progressively enhance websites and applications.
7. Write code in a git-powered version-control environment, with a commitment to learning and contributing to a shared set of programming best practices to facilitate easy collaboration and code maintainability.
8. Recommend and defend programming decisions that best fit the needs of each project based on a strong understanding of the user experience, site usage analytics, information architecture, and other site research results.

This position will serve as the technical lead for the public
web presence of the entire Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns
Hopkins. Report directly to the Web Designer and facilitate all aspects
of the School’s web efforts which include researching, planning, and
developing interactive applications. Initiate, design, code, test, and
implement web applications for the entire School, which includes ten
departments and over 40 centers and institutes. Manage cross-platform
web application projects throughout the system development lifecycle.
Interact with clients, facilitate specifications and project plans.
Works closely with the Office of Communications web team and other team
and departmental members.  Partners closely with the School’s
Information Systems technicians and participates in university-wide
information technology committees.  Manage all technical phases of
project development which includes conducting initial client
consultations. Write project scope definitions, design applications
architecture, implement, test and evaluate applications, and implement
enhancements. Develop dynamic data-enabled web applications. Serve as
primary investigator of emerging web-based technologies. Provide
guidance, training, consultation, and/or leadership to peers and support
staff . Serve on relevant university committees; participate in
projects supporting the teaching and research missions of the School.
Work closely with a CMS, manage upgrade, testing, and implementation.
Write custom modules to run in the CMS API. Specify and manage web
server software such as Cold Fusion server; manage server software
enhancements. Test in a development environment and deploy successfully
in the live production environment.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in information technology or
related field. Three years related experience.  Must demonstrate
knowledge and solutions for cross-platform and browser web development
and design. Must also possess strong project management skills as well
as familiarity with following web technologies: Google Search Appliance,
Version Control, Flash Media Server, Apache Web Server, Cold Fusion,
SQL, HTML, XML, JavaScript, Microsoft Windows Servers, IIS, Photoshop,
or Fireworks.
