We’re looking for an frontend/UI engineer to join a small, close-knit team to change the publishing industry!
Some background on us:
Hyperink is an Andreessen Horowitz and Y Combinator-backed startup that’s looking to democratize and dramatically improve the book publishing industry.
We’re looking for front-end / user interface engineers who are comfortable wearing multiple hats and enjoy learning new things constantly.  We’re tackling big problems and visions — every member of our engineering team needs to come to the table with ideas and a team-first, ‘get stuff done’ attitude.
We’re 6 fulltime right now, so you’re joining a small team that has a hand in every important decision that we make (product, strategy, even book topics!), and we have a beautiful office in SoMa in SF.
Here are some of the problems we’re solving:
Scaling publishing. Becoming the biggest ebook publisher across multiple channels (ranging from web to Kindle to iOS)
Rethinking the reading experience. Making it more social, more interactive, and more personalized
Reinventing content creation. Solving the content farm problem
Making publishing demand driven – predicting what people will want to buy and then publishing on those topics
Curation. Identifying, harvesting, and monetizing the best content across the web
Speed. Making everything really really fast!
Our technology stack includes Python (web.py and Django), WordPress, MySQL, Apache CouchDB, HTML 5, CSS(3) and jQuery.  We’re serious about engineering practices where it counts: we use Amazon EC2, git, Redmine, and our team has daily engineering standups and weekly feature/sprint discussions.
For this position, we’re specifically looking for engineers with the following skills:
– Expert at HTML5 and CSS / CSS3 markup
– A working knowledge of jQuery and/or jQuery plugins for interaction effects
– Mobile front-end skills (alternate stylesheets and media queries)
– Experience with search engine optimization, microdata markups with schema.org (Google+) and Open Graph Protocol (Facebook)
– Experience with A/B testing and optimization
– Some command line experience
– An eye for the design and the ability to prototype and iterate without a designer
Bonus points for:
– Photoshop or Fireworks experience
– Back-end skills with our technology stack
– Template integration experience with web.py or Django
– User experience and product management skills (wireframing, user flows, UI prototyping)
Hyperink’s office is in SoMa is convenient for transit and there’s tons of great food nearby.
E-mail kevin@hyperinkpress.com with your résumé, portfolio or links to your work, and a code sample or link to your GitHub account.
We’re fast – we promise a response within 48 hours. Thanks!!
