Desired Skills and Experience:

Application Developer:

Implementation: Recommend tools and standards.  Plan and model databases utilizing standard SQL deign theory and methods. Interpret and translate business rules into technical specifications.
Support/ Maintenance: Provide support and guidance on complex issues.
Project Management: Participate in project planning, provide estimates and status updates.
Business Analysis: Act as technical lead in area expertise. Collaborate with stakeholders to analyze, document, and recommend business process design in applicable area.
Leadership/Staff Management/ Financial Responsibility: Provide direction, assignments, feedback and coaching to junior developers.
 
 Required Qualifications:
 
  • A Bachelor’s degree in an information technology or related field required. An equivalent combination of education and related experience may also serve to meet these minimum requirements.
  • Experience creating and maintaining dynamic web applications with PHP and related technologies. Experience with other web application frameworks such as Ruby on Rails, Java, or Net will be considered.
  • Strong object oriented analysis, design and programming experience.
  • Experience with software development best practices such as source code control, issue tracking, prototyping, testing, etc.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering web applications through the full development   life cycle.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with relational database design theory and SQL query languages.
  • Ability to work in teams and collaborate across different constituencies, skill levels and personalities.
 
To be eligible for the Application Developer, candidate will have considerable related experience (typically 3-5 years) developing, implementing, and supporting web applications.
To be eligible for the Senior Application Developer, candidate will have extensive related experience with limited technical direction (typically 5-7 years) developing, implementing, and supporting web applications.
 
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience programming with Ruby on Rails core libraries, design patterns, refactoring and unit testing.
  • Experience with software and database modeling, normalization and performance tuning.
  • Expert level knowledge and experience in application integration.
  • Experience with Agile development practices such as Scrum or XP.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Working knowledge of SQL programming, stored procedures and related extensions.
  • Experience with coaching and mentoring.

The job responsibilities includes working on designs, implements and maintains websites or webpages in a complex technical environment; provides technical support, training and guidance to departmental users; writes and edits small-scale programs and databases for special projects.  Designs and produces electronic newsletters, and related electronic communications.
 
 Duties include:
  • Provide leadership and oversight for websites within the OVPR organization.
  • Serve as primary caretaker of supported websites (core administrative sites).
  • Design, implement and maintain websites and electronic communications.
  • Manage projects and communicate priorities.
  • Coordinate and facilitate communications with the VPR departmental web user group.
  • Implement web standards and ensure compliance with 508 guidelines.
  • Represent the OVPR on relevant campus groups such as the UI Web Support Group.
  • Maintain professional development to stay current with trends, standards, and best practices used in web development.
  • Develop, communicate, and maintain VPR website standards and user documentation.
  • Provide advanced analysis and website consultation to supported administrative and research units.
  • Provide content management training to staff who maintains departmental websites.
  • Serve as a liaison to ITS and RIS to coordinate technical work and website hosting.
  • Ability to listen and translate requests, offer design or architecture solutions that meet the needs of the department and communicate the message.
  • Develop templates for improved electronic communications (newsletters, annual reports, training materials).
 
Required Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience may also serve to meet this minimum requirement.
  • Considerable experience (typically 3-5 years) in web development or website design in a secure environment.
  • Experience with graphical design tools such as Adobe Photoshop or InDesign.
  • Demonstrated skill employing HTML, CSS or related technologies to create standards-compliant web pages.
  • Experience customizing and integrating with Content Management Systems such as Drupal.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with technical and non-technical staff.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
