as full-time staff. The ideal candidate will have proven experience creating
rich and engaging user interfaces utilizing a combination of HTML, CSS, PHP,
and JavaScript.
As an Interactive Developer at 530medialab, you’ll be working with a variety of
existing web-presences and developing new ones and must have the ability to
work with and maintain other people’s code. You should be familiar with and
excited to develop the front-end experience for data-driven web solutions. 
While the primary role of as Interactive Developer will be to create, maintain,
and support superior quality user interfaces, the ability to integrate his or
her work with backend environments and content management tools is a
must. 
Job Requirements:
– At least 2-3 years experience developing websites with a  combination of:
HTML, XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript
– Expert knowledge of PHP,
frameworks, and LAMP stack
– Experience with MVC architecture
– Experience working with Javascript libraries, primarily jQuery to create
dynamic and visually engaging user experiences
– Experience integrating with a variety of CMS systems (WordPress, Expression
Engine, etc)

Ecommerce development experience (Magento)
– Experience working with social
network API’s (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, etc)
– Exceptional understanding of and practice using Object Oriented Coding
principles
– Flexibility to juggle multiple projects while being able to solve problems
independently, adapt to quickly changing priorities, maintain a high-level of
work under pressure, and deliver on required timelines
– Ability to effectively communicate your work with both technical and
non-technical peers
– Enjoy working both in teams and independently as required by the projects and
tasks at hand
– Superior attention to detail and a strong ability to Q/A one’s own work
required, including cross-browser and cross-platform displays and performance
Bonus Points:
– Flash, ActionScript 3 development experience
– Mobile website development experience
– HTML5 / CSS3 prowess
– Agile Methodology

New York Media is seeking an Associate Art Director to maintain and evolve the visual design standards of editorial content for our digital products. You will act as a primary liaison between editors, writers, front end developers, and producers in leading the conceptualization, design, and elegant execution of a variety of daily and weekly features, helping to bring to life ideas that get our readers excited. You will contribute to the design of many of these features yourself in addition to leading a team responsible for creating them. Typical projects range from an interactive quiz for a blog post, conceptualizing an illustration style for a series of posts, overseeing the daily design needs of our home pages, and determining how we’ll package a particular week’s magazine content online. Based at our SoHo office in New York City.
 
Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate across teams on a variety of editorial projects, both large and small in scope.
• Strike a balance between well-executed, thoughtful design solutions, editorial ambitions, and business goals.
• Lead a team comprising a designer, multiple photo editors, and photographer, with an understanding of the importance of both team and personal development.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines, and prioritize them appropriately.
• Be the primary advocate for stylistic consistency within our brands as it relates to editorial content, helping to maintain and evolve the visual identities of NYMag.com, The Cut, Vulture, Grub Street, and more.
• Oversee all daily and weekly design and production tasks related to our blogs and magazine content online.
• Contribute to discussions with the product design team on new product developments as it relates to our visual identity.
 
Ideal Candidate Profile:
• A minimum of 5 years experience in the field of editorial design, particularly in the digital space, with a minimum of 2 years in a management or leadership position.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, possessing the ability to articulate conceptual ideas clearly to multiple stakeholders.
• Demonstrate strength and maturity in collaborating with a variety of members across an organization.
• Strong knowledge of HTML5 and CSS, in both its practical application of web standards and usability as well as an innate curiosity towards exploring and experimenting with leading edge techniques.
• Possess exceptional design and typography skills – and strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Illustration skills are a plus.

New York Media is seeking an Associate Art Director to help define how our network of consumer-oriented media websites and mobile products will evolve. The position will work closely with product owners, designers and developers to articulate product vision, wireframe concepts, diagram workflow, shape informational hierarchies, design interaction models, and shepherd products through visual design and development. Products may range from a new article template to a search experience to a mobile app UI. The UX Designer will create low-fidelity and high-fidelity wireframes illustrating the new products. Based at our SoHo office in New York City.
 
Key Responsibilities:
• Wireframe concepts for new products and work with edit, design, frontend and backend developers to refine/validate those concepts being wireframed.
• The IA is also responsible for diagramming workflow and production tools to support new products. This involves driving user acceptance from business owners based on their needs.
• Act as a primary user advocate across NY Media products, including advertising.
• Oversee the consistent definition, implementation, and evolution of smart UX patterns and interaction models.
• Create wireframes, prototypes, and other artifacts of potential solutions, present them to various audiences.
• Play a flexible role across our products: sometimes as primary UX designer on your own project, sometimes as UX consultant to others.
• Stay current with advancements in interactive technology and competitive or complimentary products, and advocate for the appropriate application of those advancements in our own products.
• Identify and create opportunities for user feedback in the development of new and existing features.
• Direct or assist usability testing as appropriate.
 
Ideal Candidate Profile:
• A minimum of five years in the field of user experience design, including experience working with media/editorial products.
• Strength in crafting experiences that meet equally well the needs of users/readers, editorial tone/identity, and business goals.
• Equal parts product-thinker, information architect, interaction designer, and usability professional.
• Communicate and collaborate well across teams, including software architects and developers.
• Understand that the ideal first release of a product is one that may not include all the features the business wants but works better than the audience expects.
• Familiar with the capabilities/best practices of HTML5 and iOS.
• You care deeply about the details while always keeping the big picture in mind.
