Job Description:
The Boston Globe is looking for a creative, organized leader to head the design and development team for our two websites. is a subscription site launched in 2011 featuring groundbreaking responsive design. It was named “World’s Best Designed Website” by the Society for News Design., our free site, is the sixth-largest newspaper-related website in the country. The Globe is a relaxed, un-hierarchical place to work; the kind of environment where someone with ideas and energy can have real impact.
  • Oversee the redesign of
  • Oversee the design and display of editorial content on both sites and other digital platforms including mobile and tablet apps
  • Oversee and help develop new interactive features working with our informational graphics team;
  • Work closely and collaboratively with colleagues in other departments, including product and development, to make sure the features integrate seamlessly into the site and provide a compelling user experience;
  • Work closely with newsroom web producers to provide tools they can use to enhance the user experience and to assure consistency of style across the site;
  • Directly supervise a team of two newsroom developers and data visualization specialists, and two web designers, as well as several part-time newsroom designers;
  • Report to the Globe’s design director
  • Experience in journalism and story-telling
  • Experience leading creative teams
  • A commitment to an inclusive, collaborative work culture
  • Strong technical skills including working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript
