The E.W. Scripps Company is a diverse media company looking for highly motivated and creative individuals to join our newspaper division.  At Scripps, we’re looking for people who are interesting and inquisitive — and have a variety of interests outside of their careers. These characteristics are fundamental to our intense focus on serving the community and driving the company’s success.  We’re looking for  User Experience Specialists to join a team that is poised to lead a makeover of a traditional media company.  This position is located in Knoxville, Tennessee, a city rich with history and culture located on the banks of the Tennessee River and near the Smoky Mountains. 
Key Activities:
·         Understand end-user requirements in concert with user researchers, product managers and business owners
·         Create information architecture and navigation schema to facilitate content discovery and findability
·         Develop compelling and usable user interface designs from concept sketches to wireframes and visual design comps for a variety of interactive projects
·         Develop (X)HTML, CSS and production graphics and integrate with templates for rollouts across multiple sites and/or projects
·         Maintain and update existing web-based products while maintaining and assuring integrity of user interface standards set by management
·         Learn and instruct others in company CMS and usability best practices
Knowledge  Skills & Abilities:
·         Be thoroughly versed in (X)HTML structure and semantics
·         Work fluently in CSS, and understand how to use CSS to abstract visual presentation from site structure as completely as possible
·         Know how to test and assure fidelity of Web document structure and CSS across multiple client browsers and platforms
·         Have a thorough knowledge and understanding of JavaScript and AJAX as applied to front-end web development
·         Be able to evaluate static graphic storyboards, such as Photoshop page images, quickly judge their suitability for Web presentation, and produce semantically sound (X)HTML/CSS Web versions from them
·         Understand how to integrate rich media objects (Flash, streaming or downloadable video) into Web pages and sites
·         Understand how Web templates work in typical database content management systems: server-side includes, template nesting and forms of presentation logic (variables, loops, conditionals) that are common in dynamically delivered content Web sites
·         Stay abreast of current trends in web design and related aesthetic fields (fashion, publishing, broadcast, fine arts, etc)
·         Be an effective verbal, written and visual communicator, able to explain Web customer experience strategies patiently and clearly to peers and company executives alike
·         Bachelor’s degree in interaction design, web design or related field preferred
·         2 – 8  years experience in related field preferred, with emphasis on UI design and development
·         Must be able to work in a cross-platform (Mac/PC) environment
·         Strong emphasis in visual design
