The New York Times is looking for a creative and talented web developer to help create and maintain cutting-edge the user interfaces for the tools used to manage  We are looking for an experienced software engineer and motivated individual with good UI sensibilities and expertise with all aspects of client side development.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
Expert with front end technologies. 
5-7 years of JavaScript experience and can read and write CSS, HTML, and JS by hand. 
Should be immersed enough in these technologies to have philosophies about the organizing and structuring of front end code.
Expertise with at least one common JS framework such as YUI, Prototype, or JQuery.
Competent with UI design.  Candidate need not be a visual designer, but can put together a compelling prototype without having a design handed off.
A solid understanding of web application architecture, object oriented software, and design patterns.  We are not looking for a scripter who can follow examples, but someone who fundamentally understands software development.
Good understanding of databases and SQL. 
Should possess the ability to manually update data records using hand-written SQL.
3-5+ years working in a project-driven software development environment.
Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate with end users and iterate software designs based on feedback. 
Experience with content management systems or blogging platforms.
Experience programming n-tier web applications in any object oriented language.
Experience with open source Java frameworks, such as Hibernate, Spring, and Struts.
Understanding of Web Services: REST & Soap and related frameworks.
XML expertise: SAX, DOM, Castor, JAXP & JAXB, XSLT, XStream, etc.
Comfortable working in a Linux environment.
