URL: is a Craiglist for the Military with a double-bottom
line; 10% of profits are donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. We exist
because we realized that Craigslist, with its focus on Metropolitan
cities, doesn’t always include military bases so many communities fall
into a structural hole in the market where there is no “go-to” local
classified site. Because the community moves so frequently, 1 out of
every 3 years for a PCS move and 1 out of 2 for deployments, there is an
amplified need for a military-tailored classified site. TroopSwap’s goal is to leverage the values that
underpin the military community in order to create the most trusted online marketplace for service members and their families (the core of our value proposition). This will further the deep knit social connections that permeate the community.
CEO Blake Hall is a third-generation soldier, former Army Ranger and a graduate of Harvard Business School.
The Situation (not the Jersey Shore guy)
Our primary distribution target agreed to a software licensing deal that will generate substantial revenue. As you can imagine, that has made pitching easier (round closing by end of February). A talented product executive with twelve years of e-commerce experience and an MS in Computer Science is coming aboard. The missing piece, our burning need, is a motivated young developer, willing to be mentored by a rockstar technical advisor to come on board and grow the company. You will be part of a three-person team. You can work your own hours as long as you work hard. Initially, you will be working with a full-service Ruby shop like Thoughtbot or Pivotal while we on-board talent.
