Our company, Yapp, is ready to hire its 3rd engineer. If you are passionate about your craft and want a chance to influence the technology, process, product, and culture of an exciting early stage company, read on!
# About Yapp
We aim to enable anybody to create a mobile app to enrich parts of their lives that matter to them. Yapp combines beautiful design, simple UX, and innovative mobile technology to empower those that may lack technical and design know-how, or just don’t have time, to create and publish an app in minutes. We launched our first product, Yapp Events, in private beta on April 4th and have received a phenomenal response: users have created apps for conferences, parties, trainings, corporate retreats, weddings, farmers markets, proms, a hike to the top of Everest and more.
We are funded by Kleiner Perkins, North Bridge Venture Partners, Cue Ball, and others. Here are links to some of our beta launch press: http://press.yapp.us
# Our Technology, Process, and Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a product-oriented engineer who enjoys working on all parts of the stack, driven by the goal of creating world-class user experiences. That means you will get incredible experience writing code for mobile, tablet and desktop, in multiple languages, and get to work on both cutting edge UX and interesting back-end challenges.
While we make it look easy for regular folks to make an app, Yapp is powered by some cutting-edge technology. Some of the tools we’re using include Rails, Ember.js, Sproutcore, PhoneGap, iOS SDK, Node.js, Heroku & AWS, Postgres, and Redis.
Ideally, our new teammate will bring experience in some of these tools and interest in the others. Open source is an important part of our tech culture and we have commits in Rails and Sproutcore, and are particularly engaged in the development of Ember.js and its ecosystem.
We are students of agile and lean software development. We use kanban and do pair programming and TDD where appropriate. We develop on master and ship almost every day. We place a premium on honesty and integrity amongst ourselves, and our partners and customers; collaborate often but have meetings infrequently. For the long version of how we think about technology teams, you can check out a talk Luke gave at Gotham Ruby Conference: http://bit.ly/HESGxy
# Reasons You Might (and Might Not) Want to Join Our Team
We’re a scrappy, very-early-stage company. We don’t have daily free lunches. We don’t have masseuses or a concierge. We don’t throw lavish parties. We work out of a basement (well, it’s actually a pretty nice basement). Yet even without these “perks,” we are having more fun and working harder than we’ve ever had and loving it.
As a part of our critical founding team, you’ll be involved very early in an exciting company, play a pivotal part in creating an awesome product, and have a significant equity position and the chance to make it worth something.
We can offer a competitive salary, health insurance, and a thrilling adventure. We’re also a rare startup that is family-friendly.
To apply: Please contact me (Luke Melia, CTO and co-founder) at firstname.lastname@example.org and tell me why you might be the critical third engineer we are looking for. Include "Yapp Engineer" and "REF:3ENG" in the subject line. Include a resume or LinkedIn URL as well as a link
